Flanders Moss is another area for outstanding wildlife and nature trails.

Cardross is only a 20 minute drive from Stirling. The city is home to many historic sites including one of Scotland’s grandest castles, Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument and nearby historic Bannockburn.

Dunblane is also a 20 minute drive. A picturesque small city with its beautiful Cathedral and one of the few surviving medieval churches in Scotland.

As well as the local places to visit and things to do, there is also fishing on and near to Cardross Estate. Running along the southern border of Cardross is the famous River Forth, perfect for a quiet few hours on one’s own or with the family. To the North, there is the Lake of Menteith which is the main venue for the National Fly fishing Championships in Scotland.

  • River Forth: Permits for fishing on the river can be bought before and during your stay by contacting us directly
  • Lake of Menteith Fishery: Boats and permits can be bought from the fishery directly

Cardross is surrounded by many miles of traffic free trails which pass through the heart of the Trossachs.

Here are four of the most notable routes from Aberfoyle:

  • Aberfoyle to Kinlochard. A beautiful ride along the waymarked forest road on the south side of Loch Ard, ending at the Wee Blether Tearoom. Hilly forest road (approx. 1.5 hours/7miles)
  • Aberfoyle to Buchlyvie/Drymen. Following the railway route along the river, this route divides after two miles to offer the choice of a flat ride to Buchlyvie (7 miles) or a hillier single track road to Drymen (13 miles)
  • Duke’s Pass. A famous climb, straight from the main street in Aberfoyle. Challenging but with wonderful views and, once over the top, there are options to continue to Callander or Loch Katrine

Walks in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs

Cardross Estate borders the Eastern edge of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and the foothills of the Trossachs. The National Park sits on the cusp of the Scottish Highlands, a beautiful region of lochs, glens and miniature mountains. Often overlooked in favour of the taller peaks that characterize the central Highlands, this region abounds with fantastic hiking trails and some of Scotland’s most iconic lakes.

Please follow this link below to a full list of walks in the surrounding area and tips and information on each one.

Its location provides the perfect base for a countryside getaway and exploring Scotland, with convenient access to Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as the Highlands and both East and West coasts.

Natural monuments, such as Lake of Menteith, Flanders Moss National Nature reserve (the largest lowland raised bog in Europe) and Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park are ready to be discovered. Scottish history is also very present in the region, with Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, and Doune Castle nearby.

Cardross is also home to five farms, a mix of arable and livestock, which have been home to families for generations. There are also a number of events and festivals that happen throughout the year on the general Estate.
